Palliative care is an approach that aims to improve the quality of life of patients and their families, who encounter problems arising from life-threatening illness, and to prevent and alleviate suffering through early diagnosis and evaluation of pain and other problems, and meeting their physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs. The aim is to increase the quality of life by providing the necessary training to prepare the patient and his/her relatives for home care. In palliative care, wound care and dressing patient nutrition, personal hygiene and psychological support trainings are given to the relatives of the patients.
Who needs palliative care: end-stage cancer patients who do not respond to treatment, bedridden patients with bedsores, patients whose pain does not decrease despite medical treatment and whose sleep patterns are disrupted, patients who need enteral or parenteral nutritional support with impaired oral intake, dementia patients with acute changes, neurology patient groups.
Our palliative care service was put into service in 2018 and is located on the 5th floor of our hospital. 3 specialist physicians, 1 floor physician and 12 nurse staff and other specialists in our hospital together with our specialist physicians serve in line with a multidisciplinary approach. Our service consists of double rooms. It has a total capacity of 30 beds. There is a busy room for patient relatives. Since services such as education and patient care are provided in palliative care, the patient's relatives must have a companion with the patient. Patients who want to receive palliative care services must apply for themselves or a family member.
We wish you healthy days.
